JULIUSZ SŁOWACKI'S “THE EASTERN DIARY” OF THE JOURNEY TO THE EAST

The diary of Juliusz Słowacki – known under an archaic name of raptularz (the word also stood for an engagement/appointment book) – is a notebook featuring manuscripts and drawings in the poet’s hand, related to his journey to the East. The document is a priceless historical and cultural source. Now, we have made available this copybook to the readers in a digital form, furnished with a number of commentaries resulting from years of research of the editorial team.

The digital edition is part of the research project carried out under the grant allocated by Poland’s National Science Centre [NCN]:

Juliusz Słowacki’s rediscovered notebook of the journey to the East (raptularz) as a Romantic syncretic work and a literary and iconographic source for research on the 19th century history and culture

A broad range of other material published at this site will make you more familiar with the Polish poet’s amazing expedition and its diverse contexts.
